Handspring today announced a distribution agreement with two European distributors of mobile communication products, covering launch and marketing program to bring the Treo family of compact communicators to customers in UK (Cellnet), the Netherlands (Telfort), Germany (Viag) Ireland (Digifone), and Sweden (Telia).
In Sweden, Treo will be available in Telia stores throughout Sweden around February at an estimated price of SEK 5990 (inc. VAT) with a Telia-contract and at SEK 8990 (inc. VAT) without contract.
"We are very pleased to be Handspring´s main partner in bringing Treo to Swedish customers. Treo offers end users a very innovative and easy to use communicator product, which effectively integrates wireless phone and PDA functionalities. We believe that Treo has a great potential on the Swedish market and we have already seen a great demand for the product from our resellers," said Berth Hertzberg, Vice President Marketing & Sales, APE Telecom.
No pricing and availability was announced for the other countries, other than that “the companies will work together during the first quarter of this year to launch Treo via mmO2 networks … and use mm02's distribution network to bring Treo to market through other physical and online channels as greater supply becomes available in the coming months."
"mmO2 is a natural partner for us because it shares our vision of integrated, next generation wireless devices and services that offer real benefits to the consumer,'' said Donna Dubinsky, CEO of Handspring. ``As we continue to focus more on delivering innovative communicator products like Treo, partnerships with operators like mm02 will become critical to our success. Launching Treo together is a great starting point, and we look forward to a long and rewarding alliance."
