Voice-recognition in cars

Tue Apr 18, 2000 - 4:24 PM EDT - By James Hromadka

Delphi Automotive Systems Corp. and Palm announced an agreement that would put portable voice-recognition systems in cars that would allow drivers to access their Palm devices.

The special cradle would fit in a cupholder and plug into a standard cigarette lighter. From the Reuters story:
Drivers will be able to use the device to send and retrieve information from their Palm handheld devices on a hands-free basis.

The system will also be coordinated to allow customers of the Palm.Net service to access news, weather, sports, financial information, e-mail and the Internet.
Price has not yet been set and a Handspring Visor edition has not been announced at this time. The Palm edition will be available in retail stores in the fourth quarter.
