Handspring licenses CDMA from Qualcomm

Wed Aug 9, 2000 - 10:11 AM EDT - By James Hromadka

Handspring has licensed from Qualcomm its digital wireless standard, allowing the company to develop wireless products using CDMA technology. From the Reuters story:
"Over time, all handheld computing products will become wirelessly enabled and Qualcomm's CDMA technology provides a great path for enabling these solutions," said Ed Colligan, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Handspring.
"One of the key design advantages of our Springboard expansion technology is its ability to work with multiple wireless standards. We look forward to working with Qualcomm and our Springboard developer community to help fuel the next-generation of wireless communications solutions," Colligan said.
Looks like Palm won't be the only one building wireless capabilites into their models. This is a great development; A wireless Springboard module from Handspring looks to be on the way, and if Handspring makes a wireless Visor, users can be online with their Visor and still use the Springboard slot. Here is the press release.
