WORKS WELL FOR ME!!
I HAVE HAD MEM PLUG FOR OVER 2 YEARS AND I RUN ALL MY LARGE PROGRAMS FROM THE CHIP. I KEEP THE DATA BASES ON THE RAM AND IT ALL WORKS WELL. I RUN C SPOT RUN, POCKET QUICKEN, OFFICE TO GO AND OTHERS. I EVEN KEEP SOME OF MY DOCUMENTS ON THE CARD AND READ THEM FROM THERE. THE ONLY THING I DO NOT LIKE ABOUT THE PLUG IS THAT ONLY A TRIAL VERSION OF PI DIRECT IS INCLUDED WITH THE CHIP. YOU GO OUT SPEND $40 ON THE MEM PLUG, GET A 128 OR SO CHIP AND THEN HAVE TO EVALUATE IF YOU WANT TO SPEND ANOTHER $20 TO MAKE IT AS EFFECTIVE AS POSSIBLE. JUST THROUGH THE FULL VESION OF PI DIRECT ONTO ALL CARDS AND BUMP THE PRICE $7 EACH. THAT WILL CUT DOWN ON THE NEGATIVE PRESS AND MAKE US ALL MUCH HAPPIER..

Memplug eats memory cards and now is just a battery drain. No apps.
The first Memplug I bought proptly ate the memory card I used. The retail vendor replaced the memplug and the memory card. The second card was eaten almostly as promptly. The Memplug corp office replaced the Memplug (but not the 32MB memory card this time, thanks a bunch). The replacement Memplug worked a while but now it dead in the water. Just rolled over one day and did not show up for business. The product is crap IMHO. I'll have no more of it. You'd be far better off with a Palm and swappable memory.

Reluctantly, I Give Up...
I've gone from the heights of eager anticipation to the dark depths of Fatal Error frustration. I just can't get this darn thing to work and Tech Support seems well-meaning but has been no real help. I suppose the rash of typos in the manual should have sent up a red flag. I'm about to wave a white flag of surrender. Arrrggghh!

Correction with my review!
There are no incompatibities with the smart media memplug like with the compact flash memplug. The smat media memplug is fantastic!!!

Memplug is the only Springboard to get!!!
Before I purchased the smart media Memplug, I've heard so much good things about it. AFter finally getting hold of one, every good comments made about the smart media Memplug was 100% confirmed true!!!!!!! The memplug is the essential springboard add-on to get first. It really boost the visor's worth and performance 100%. I have two visors, Prism and Platinum, and both have smart media Memplugs with 64mb and 128mb smart media. There were incompatibilities with different brands of smart media memory like with the compact flash memplug version, and the smart media memplug draws much less power than its compact flash counterpart. The smart media, maybe just a millisecond slower in accessing files compared with the compact flash, but you can use Afterburner to overclock and speed up your visor to make it up for it. No problem. This is really the first upgrade add-on to get. There are so many faster Palm PDA out there that have faster Palm OS, like 4.0 and 4.1, to invest on to replace the aging visors that only run the older Palm OS 3.1, but with the memplug's enhancment to allow infinite storage with the visor sure makes it hard to part with. Why pay $200+ dollars for a new PDA to replace your visor, if you can get pretty much the same storage performance for a meesly $49.00 Memplug? Smart media memory cards are sold really cheap also, I paid $29.00 for a 128mb!!!! The Memplug really does give your visor a lasting appeal. I don't think I'll be buying any new PDA anytime soon to replace my visor. Thanks to Memplug for making my Visor last a long time!!!! GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't format
I really want this to work, but I haven't been able to format three different brand new SM cards. And, contrary to what a previous poster said, the documentation and online support is terrible. It looks pretty, but there is no troubleshooting in the user guide. The online support barely exists, and the description of how to use their eraser.prc contradicts itself. I'm waiting to hear from their tech support folks...

Worth the $$....After PiDirect.
I have the SMC unit and am purchasing the SD unit shortly. I will say Buy PiDirect. It made the purchase worth the $$. Before I did it was just a hassle.

Very easy/inexpensive way to up your memory!
I bought the MemPlug after reading reviews and asking questions on message boards here on VisorCentral and on Yahoogroups. I had NO problem with my 64 meg SM card being recognized, nor have I had a problem using it. I do have a problem with WordSmith being slow, but that's hopefully going to be solved with the new ROM update. If you want to get a backup module and extra memory and a way to run programs (use Launcher III which is $9.95, instead of PiDirect), then the SM version of MemPlug is the way to go.

i got it and i like it
i also purched the launcherIII and the memplug. i can run almost anything i need to from the card. i also didnt like the way that the tab sticks out of the unit, when i got mine i got a 128mb card cause it was so cheap with the sale and such, i mean whos not going to buy a media card for 69 bucks that has 128mb ram on it and i have mine filled with about 25mb of DOC's, about 10mkb of games, etc, well you get the idea... since i won't be removing my only sm card i simply put a piece of black tape actoss the top and trimmed it so it cant snag on anything and with a razer blade trimmed it so it actully looks like part of the memplug now, and i feel it is a little more protected from the occasion unexpected sunshower. the only thing that i wish it would do is put images from the eyemodule on the prysm, and be able to store those in the card. byw when are they gonna think about the idea of making a tv module for this thing, the screen is larger than most of the small portable tv's on the market??? but in closing yeea i do like the extra memory, but i do have one complaint is that when u pop out the module and reinset it again all the reinstalled proggie that come with it are back in the unfiled catagory...instead of where i put tyhem so far more than 2 dozen times

a disaster
I looked forward to installing my Memplug (I need more memory). It was a disaster! It would not format 2 different Smartcards (which work in my camera). And then it began to lock up my Handspring. I had to delete it's programs and then do a hard reset to get my Handspring to function correctly. It's going back tomorrow. Too bad.
