poor fit, poor construction, poor value |
I knew I would be sending the ShockSuit back
within a few minutes of opening the package. As otehrs have
noted, it is made of molded neoprene, with a relatively
flimsy plastic skeleton around the opening of the interior of
the case. The Visor jsut slips in from the top
and is a very loose fit -- in fact, the visor just sort
of rattles around inside it. There is no cutout for the
Visor's side-mounted infrared port, reinforcing my impression
that this is actually the Palm III ShockSuit, relabeled on the
WWW site as Visor-specific but not actually designed for the Visor
in particular. I don't belive the Velcro cover fastening will survive many
cycles, and I have heard several reports that the two plastic clips that
store the stylus break easily. The top opening of the case (where the PDA slips
in, and through which the Palm (not the Visor) beams IR), appears to have been
trimmed by a kid with an Xacto knife.
Frankly, I'm very surprised to see the positive reviews others have posted. Granted,
the Shocksuit's neoprene may provide a bit better than average bump resistance, and the belt clip
arrangement works pretty well. But for
10 bucks *less* you can get a really nicely-made leather matching case from Handspring (which
the Visor clips firmly into). To each his own!

Good idea, needs a little tweaking |
I also had one shipped fast for my new Visor Deluxe and am glad I did. It has already made it easier to haul around. I don't always have a shirtpocket and I am a network admin and am constantly leaning over anyhow. I find it light, important when carrying multiple devices on my belt.i.e. pager radio etc. and accessible. It slip of the belt attachment easily enough but is secure. I don't like the velcro but don't have a clue how you'd do it better and I do like the stylus being accessible on the outside of the case. I have a Pentopia Chameleon and often need to jot a note.

Tough Visor Protection for a Reasonable Price |
I just received my Visor Deluxe and ShockSuit SportCase this week and have been impressed with both. I am deployed to Kosovo for the US government and needed a case to protect my Visor from less than ideal conditions. My SportCase didn't arrive with a beltclip, but a quick email to the company and they had one on the way. I too expected something a little different based on the photo on the Rhinoskin website. It appeared to be a polyurethane case, similar to military transit cases, but is instead made of a neoprene material. It still can take some abuse that a normal case would probably not be able to handle. Bouncing around with me inside a humvee is what I needed and I feel this case can handle it. I would have preferred a tubular type of stylus holder instead of the two clips that are on the outside of the case. I'm not too sure I want to risk my new deluxe stylus staying attached by the two clips. True, you can't beam between two Visors with it inside the case, but you probably wouldn't be sending files in an extreme enviroment anyhow. The ShockSuit also looks like it could withstand a good soaking of water without affecting it. Try that with a leather case. Yes, it's not as tough as a titanium case, but it is also less than half the price too. Overall, I am glad I made the purchase, and would purchase it again if RhinoSkin makes a few minor improvements. The troops here carrying around their Palm IIIs really liked the features of the case and I suspect I won't be the only one here carrying one soon.

Poor Construction and Access |
I started using my ShockSuit SportCase on Monday of this week when my graphite Visor Deluxe arrived.
Today, during a meeting/conference call, I opened the case to use my Visor and the velcro that is glued to the inside of the cover flap fell off. I just got home and reglued it with some super glue.
The other post was accurate in that it really doesn't look like what you see in the website photo's... The material feels funny. I don't like it. However, I do give RhinoSkin credit for making a product that appears to offer better than average protection.
As far as HotSyncing goes, there's access only if you buy the Visor USB HotSync Cable from Handspring. The HotSync cradles wont work.
And forget about using the IR port while your Visor is in the case.
An other issue is that future Springboard modules that have a form factor larger than the Springboard slot protector will not fit in the ShockSuit... Something to think about if you are going to purchase the Innogear MiniJam MP3 Player, InfoMitt Pager or SixPak Springboard modules when they become available shortly.
Hope that gives some insight.

Good but not what it look's like! |
I have had the shocksuit for about a month and it works well for me.
The one negative thing I would say is that it is not what it look's
like on the pictures.
One would think from the pictures that this is a hard plastic case but it is not!
It's made of some soft foam material with plastic plates in the cover and back
and a plastic frame around the front of the Visor.
It will probably give good protection for the avarage user but not as much as one
would think from looking at the pictures.
Also I do not like the velcro used to close the cover,it make's the thing look a bit cheap.
P.S.:Please excuse any mistakes since my native
tongue is french.

Geeky? Yes! Protect investment? You bet! |
This may not be the most cost effective solution, but for the protection that it offers I love it! The belt clip works great and the fact that it swivels comes in very handy. I would recommend this to anyone that wants to do what it takes to protect their Visor but doesn't want to spend $100 on the Titanium case. Belt clip might be tricky at first, but becomes second nature after a little use.
