VisorPhone by Handspring

>> Read Review (Rating 4/5) <<

Not only is it a powerful dual-band world phone, it's also a wireless modem. So you can make phone calls, surf the web, check email, chat online and more—wirelessly. And with all the cool and useful programs already built into your Visor handheld, you'll get information, communication and integration—all in one highly portable, easy to use package.

Simply a better mobile phone
VisorPhone is so much more than just a mobile phone and handheld combined. Dial any number directly from your address book. Speed dial with a single tap. You can even check your calendar while talking on the phone. And it's all so simple that even the most daunting task-like setting up a three-way call-will feel like child's play.

Surf the Internet—wirelessly
Stay connected wherever you are—with VisorPhone. Using VisorPhone as a wireless modem you can check your personal or corporate email from the road, surf the Internet from anywhere, instantly message family and friends and more. With your Visor handheld's nice, big screen everything is super easy to read. And all the software you need is included for free. Plus, with speeds of up to 14.4 kbps, and an ever-increasing range of GSM mobile coverage, you'll be able to get the information you need when you need it.

Sending out an SMS
Stuck in a meeting? Running late for an appointment? Sometimes, you just can't talk. But that doesn't mean you can't get your message across. With Short Message Service (SMS), just send off a text message—kind of like a text page—to any SMS-enabled phone in your calling plan network. It's quick. It's easy. And it works.

All in one and one for all
Everything you need to communicate and organize your life is now in one fully integrated, convenient and lightweight package. No more carrying multiple devices. No more reading numbers from your handheld while trying to dial them on your mobile phone. No more entering numbers separately into your phone and your handheld. And because it's a Springboard module, you just snap it in and it works.

Long Term use is hazardous to health
Im frustrated for several reasons. It was a good idea, that wasnt followed through on. >Pager: no volume, style, or vibrate settings. You can hear it unless the room is quiret, and forget hearing it in your car or in its belatcase. >Whenever it loses its signal (off call) it does NOT reacquire a signal automatically. Thus you have to tell it manually to do so, then you find out you missed messages or calls. >microphone:"I live in a tunnel" song runs through my head when i have to talk to someone.

Great, but wheres the case
The website has helped tremendously with my purchase, but I still do not have the faintest idea where to get a good case because of the fact that the visorphone is attached to my visor edge. Theres really no cases, that i know of at least, that accomidate the slimness of the edge with a little pouch or whatever, for the visorphone, please help

Great phone (buy a Planetronics headset for good sound!)
I always wanted this module when it first came out, but it was *soooo* expensive then. You can finally get one for $99 or for free if you sign up for activation. People say that the sound quality is not good, and I agreed when I used the headset that came with it. It got worse with other ones I bought, with the exception of Planetroics! I bought a $15 Planetronics headset and it sounds excellent. Your voice sounds so clear with it and the audio is exceptional. It even has a selector switch on it to either amplify, keep same volume, or reduce the echo in your voice when you talk. The person I was talking to said it was much better, and I got to hear it for myself when I tested it with my voicemail. The reception I get with this module is much better than my Nokia 3395. If I had to complain about anything it would be the included software. You can do SMS, but you can't send pictures with the included SMS software. The dialer also doesn't allow for custom ringers. The ringer is not that loud, but if you add the cushions that are included with the phone, it does help. If you have a Cingular phone, just take out your SIM card in your current phone and slide it into the Visorphone, and viola! It will work.

Awesome Integration
I've had the VisorPhone for about 2 months. My Visor Deluxe with the VisorPhone is better than I expected. Sound quality is good and Voicestream coverage seems better tha AT&T in this suburaban Philadelphia area. I love not having to carry a phone and a PDA. If you have Datebook 4, linking appointments to Phone numbers is awesome with the phone dialing integrated to the address book. I love it.

Constant Fatal Errors
Would have loved to actually get it to work. After 10 or so hard resets to temporarily get it to work I sent it back. Calls to Visor for help were worthless. I was on told I had to defrag my hard drive to get it to work. I was also told to not load any third party software even though one of the boasts for their handhelds is the thousands of third party applications available. After this experience I probably won't by any other Springboard module either.

Visorphone is great!
My intention for using the Visorphone was primarily with SMS, for which it works great. It beats trying to type out a message on a phone keyboard. I just wish there were a way to do an email address lookup, but I\'ve fixed that for those addresses I use a lot with Visor shortcuts. Given what I paid (zip, with a one-year subscription) I\'m ecstatically happy.

Visor Phone and Cingular $tink
Visor phone problems: 1) microphone sounds like you are always in a tunnel. 2) no minute counter in software. 3) no phone lock to prevent accidental calls. Cingular is worse than phone: 1) horrible customer service. 2) web page service is bad (when it works) 3) coverage is 1/3 of Verizon.

Nice idea, if it actually worked!!
Everything worked well except the sound quality from the built in mic is deplorable....and that's with 2 different visors that each satisfy Handspring's SN crietia for compatibility. The sound from the in-line mic with the ear bud is no better. Plus, the receptacle in the phone was loose/oversize such that the jack cut in and out in the visorphone. The ear bud jack worked fine in a separate non-visor phone. Handspring's service was acceptable - they provided an RMA for the phone but then began to tell me my visor was older than a year and hence out of warranty. I told them I didn't want the visor warranted, I just expected the visor phone to be compatible with my visor as advertised and would simply return the phone if that was going to be their additude.!!! They gave in and agreed to send a new visor though I expect the problem lies merely with the crappy built in mic. As I said, I tried the phone on two separated Visor's already. My advice, go with somethng else. The Visorphone would be great if it worked better.
