InnoPocket and FAFileMover

Fri Feb 23, 2001 - 10:06 AM EST - By Scott Hanselman

Conclusion

This is the price we pay as early adopters. InnoPocket has raised the bar and released and excellent and very high quality product. It would be nice to see broad support for the CF format on the Visor, as well as some comments from Handspring. I'm sure they must be watching these adapters to see what happens. What do you think, Handspring?

It's not nearly as fragile as the adapters that you can make yourself. It is well machined and well-made. The fact that it is only US$39.90 and includes a registered copy of the FAFileMover software makes it an excellent value. This is cheaper than either the Backup Module or the Handspring Flash Adapter. The only real caveat to this combination of hardware and software is (and with many modules) to always exit to the main Applications Launcher before removing the InnoPocket from your Visor.

Kopsis Engineering is hoping to continue development on a "FAAutoMover" application that will make the integration of CF into a Visor even more seamless. If you are a novice Visor user, be aware that this solution as it sits does add a level of complexity to the use of your Visor. But, if you are used to simple File Management tasks like "what file is where," you'll be fine. The clean interface of the FAFileMover is easy to use.

The standard has been improved and the InnoPocket is a truly professional module. I couldn't make a better one myself. When the InnoPocket is available for sale on February 24th, the only question is will - they be shipped and supported in a timely fashion by this distant company. I made my own adapter, then I bought a MatchBookDrive and now I'll buy the InnoPocket. If a better module comes out, I'll buy that one too. I wait with baited breath to see what's next as the innovation continues and I continue to adopt early!
