Presenter-to-Go

Thu Mar 15, 2001 - 11:18 AM EST - By James Hromadka

Setup

Fortunately my wife has Windows 98 on her laptop, so I installed the software there.  The first time I inserted the Presenter-to-Go into the Visor Prism, nothing happened.  The module didn't function until I had connected everything at least once.  Connecting the PtG to a monitor/projector involves the following:

  1. Connect the VGA cable to the PtG (silver side up).  Note the buttons on either side of the connector.  These must be pressed in when disconnecting the cable or you can damage the module.  This is quite cumbersome and you have to be careful when removing the cable.
  2. Plug the A/C adapter into the VGA cable and then into a power plug.
  3. Turn on the display device (monitor or projector) and then plug in the VGA connector.  You can remove the gender changer from the VGA cable if necessary.  The projector must be able to handle 1024x768 resolution.
  4. Plug the PtG into the Visor.
That's the basic setup for connecting the PtG.  At this point, you can begin your presentation.

Desktop Software

One of the first surprises with the Presenter-to-Go Desktop software is that there isn't a HotSync conduit for it.  A Plug-in for PowerPoint lets you click a button and convert your presentation into a format for the module.  If you're not using PowerPoint, print to the Presenter-to-Go printer using landscape mode and you can make anything (Word, Excel, HTML, etc.) into a presentation.  You can also append to an existing presentation, so you can start with a few PowerPoint slides, work in an Excel table, then finish it off with a splash of Word.  You can also restore presentations that you've HotSynced.

Don't worry about the order, as you can change that on the Visor later.  When you click the Queue button, the PtG presentation database is added to your Install list for your Palm Desktop Software to be installed the next time you HotSync.
