@ctiveLink by Glenayre

>> Read Review (Rating 3/5) <<

The Glenayre @ctiveLink Wireless Messaging Module transforms Visor into a wireless interactive messaging device. Now you can send messages wirelessly to any e-mail address; receive sports, stock market, and weather updates; look up telephone numbers; and more.

The Visor's 8 MB of memory allows you to store approximately 500 e-mails and other messages. And you'll never miss an important message, since you can keep the @ctiveLink Wireless Messaging Module always turned on - whether it's in or out of your Handspring Visor.

The @ctiveLink module comes with preloaded applications for your Visor, including BeamLink (for sending and receiving e-mail messages) and InfoBeam (for querying and receiving updates from Internet information services).

The Glenayre @ctiveLink Wireless Messaging Module requires a minimum $24.95 monthly wireless service option through Metrocall.

An activation card with details is included in the box.

Great little two way pager
Batteries Plus sold off their bundled Activelink/VDX at $100 Cdn. Also added in 3 months of free service from Pagenet. Friends who picked up the deal didn\'t want the pager and so i got it. 2 way text is great.

Dead Product
Glenayre has shut down this division and no further work is being done on this product (we were a developer for this product). The VisorPhone or one of the other RF modems are a much better deal, and you have a future with them.

Disappointing
I had high hopes for the ActiveLink module. However, after using it for a while, I was quite disappointed in its performance and with its limitations. The limited text capability rendered the module virtually useless. It did not allow for emails of any significant length. Also, the ActiveLink's news, sports, and weather information services were pathetic. For several weeks, I received the same headlines, sports results, and weather conditions. Moreover, Full Service was so sporadic that it prohibited sending or receiving any information most of the time I tried using the module. In short, ActiveLink needs a lot of work. At this point in time, I simply cannot recommend ActiveLink to any Handspring owners and users. Ken Sanders.

Some of you are unnecessarily harsh!
I think the Glenayre module is absolutely the best wireless access module available for the Handspring, period. Check the coverage maps before choosing any other service. The coverage areas for Omnisky, Minstrel, etc., are HORRIBLE! Glenayre's Active Link module covers me just about everywhere. Since it uses the existing ReFlex paging network to transmit and receive data, it covers more of the US than anybody, by a HUGE magnitude! Furthermore, anyone who cared to research this module realized that the reason that Glenayre bundled it was for the customer's protection. There was an RF interference problem with some Handsprings that could cause the unit to malfunction. Bundling them was the only responsible way of getting this unit out for those who wanted it without causing potential customer headaches. Geez, guys, lighten up! Now that its been approved for sale without the bundled Handspring, there's no reason not to go for it. I'm telling you, there is nothing better than plugging in this module and having it instantly present all my new e-mails. It's just like opening Outlook at work, it's that quick and easy. BTW, according to Glenayre, they are going to release a version of the Active Link next year that includes a built in GPS. I can't wait! Plus, with my Flip Clip from Tactilis, I don't have to worry about it getting in the way of the crappy OEM Handspring cover.

Unbundled module, $14 service
I read all the reviews and seems that bundling is the biggest drawback. It is available separately now. Also, plans start at $14 per month - hard to beat. Check Metrocall and Weblink. Skytel sucks.

bundle sucks
I have a visor Deluxe. It has been since I ordered from the back order last year to show my support and loyalty. I had a hoping to see pager module. But it bundle only!! Looks like I have to wait another year. isn't?? I also hope to see mobiltex(bellsouthIPS) with vibrator springmodule upcoming soon. That will be alot better than palm VII. PALM VII sucks, cuz I have to open up the antenia to recieve the message. which means I cannot use it as my pager.

why is it bundled
what am i going to do return the 125 visors i purchased or spend the 450 each and have 125 spares. I am not happy with the visor company anyway. they dont even have a bulk purchase plan. So why would anyone expect they will take care of there exsisting customers. what more proof do you need that they only want new customers and us excisting customers can go blow in the wind I am going to put an add in the paper in the morning for the vosors i do own and going to purchase the palm units and get the 8 meg ram module with the two way pager in it. thank you for making it clear to us.

Great product, but...
Needs location capability. Would be handy to be able to do mapping and directions by having it know my location.
